At first, I was reluctant to read it, but as we read on, I found myself delving deeper and deeper into Anne’s world. I started to look forward to reading about Anne’s adventures, Mrs. Van Daan’s remarks, and how the rest of the characters developed. Anne is a kind-hearted girl, and from what I have learned of her, she was very optimistic. I was amazed at how she thought that “people are good at heart,” even at the worst of times. When she first went to the concentration camp, Anne was happy to finally be outside with nature, rather than breaking down or going crazy like everyone else. She truly is an inspirational girl, and had the spirit to overcome the toughest of times, as well as help others. Even though in the end, Anne Frank died in a concentration camp called Bergen-Belson, her spirit is carried through this book, The Diary of Anne Frank. | Name: Jaral

Anne was was very optimistic to be able to live in the annex for two years with stuburn adults(Van Daans). She was able to live a boy, Peter, who call her Ms. Quak Quak. A sister who everyone call a perfect child, and compared her too.(Margot) To sleep in the same room as a man alot older then her.(Mr. Dussel) A mother and father of cared deeply for her.(Mr and Mrs.Frank) Anne is a good role model to all. | Name: Jessica

I personally think that Anne and everyone else in hiding was very strong for not going crazy in hiding. | Name: Steve Chang

I don’t know how people could have maintained such a state of mind under such dire conditions. People could learn much from Anne’s unyielding positive spirit. These people were brave to stand up to the Nazis, and we are very lucky to have those who survived the camps to share this story with us. Anne Frank could have been an amazing writer though sadly that was not her fate, but with her diary she lives on in our memories. | Name: Michael
December 15, 2010 10:44 PM | Location: Cupertino CA Response: We acted out the play on the Diary of Anne Frank and going into it, I didn't know very much about her. However, after this play, I really discovered how difficult is was to live during the Holocaust. Having to hide in the annex with limited supplies and not very much to do, constantly waiting in fear and making sure that the Nazis don't find out you're there, its just seems very difficult. Even in those depressing times, Anne seemed to find a way to make things cheerful like when she gave everyone a present for Hanukkah. After we acted out the play, we also saw the tragic end to Anne Frank's life and how she fared in the concentration camps. It was really depressing and quite gruesome, what the Nazis did to the Jews. Barely any food was available and the people in the concentration camps worked long hours with the bare minimum in daily necessities. We saw how Margot died with Anne dying soon after and it was very saddening how someone so great, who had so much charisma had to be put in this kind of torture. She is a brilliant person and may her diary be an inspiration to millions of other people throughout the world in the future. | Name: Michael

December 15, 2010 09:49 PM | Location: Cupertino, Ca Response: 1. While reading The Diary of Anne Frank, I started to admire Anne’s optimism. She made everyone hiding in the annex confident that they would not be caught by the Nazi’s. Even I started believing that Anne and her family would not be caught and she would grow up to be a great writer. It never occurred to me that Anne may actually die. I was waiting for a happy ending, but when that didn’t come I was shocked. I learned that life is full of twists and turns so enjoy each moment to the fullest. While reading the book I started connecting to Anne. When she died I really was able to comprehend the horrific deeds done by the Nazi’s. I learnt how the Nazi’s deceived the Jews and all the terrible ways of killing innocent people. | Name: krao music luvah
December 15, 2010 09:40 PM | Location: Cupertino Response: The Diary of Anne Frank really showed me how cruel people in this world could be. Before reading this story, I didn't know much about the Holocaust. I knew the important facts; I knew a man named Hitler had sought out to rid the world of Jews by capturing them and sending them to cruel concentration camps. However, as I had mentioned, this is just the main idea. The Diary of Anne Frank took me on a journey to that very point in history, from the perspective of a Jew who had lived through it. I was able to see the ruthless way the Jews were dragged away from their homes, treated like dirt, made to work to death, and starved to almost nothing. Some select Jews were even taken to gas chambers where they were showered with toxic gas. How cruel! What a horrible way to die! Others that weren't taken to gas showers were treated even worse. They were made to work endlessly in places with disease spreading all over. Some camp didn't even provide shelter from the elements like rain or snow. No one was given much food - people often fought for any morsel of food they could get. Those people suffered much slower, more painful deaths. I had always known the Holocaust was cruel, but until I read the Diary o Anne Frank, I really didn't understand how cruel it actually was. It opened my eyes to the events that could actually take place now - it already happened once! I never knew people could be as ruthless as Hitler was. | Name: krao music luvah

Before reading this story, I knew the Holocaust was a cruel part of our history. I had known the major outline of the event; a German named Hitler captured Jews and sent them to concentration camps. Considering this, I felt as though I only fully understood the cruelty of the Holocaust after reading The Diary of Anne Frank. From reading the story, my eyes were opened as to quite how ruthless the Holocaust actually was. I was able to see how the Jews were driven out of their homes, taken by force, to places where they worked so hard without any food or water. Some were even sent to gas chambers where they were showered in gas. How hideous! Others, although, not directly killed, were worked or starved to death. It brings tears to my eyes just to imagine it. I fully owe this new understanding of our own history to The Diary of Anne Frank. It helped me gain so much more knowledge about a major event in world-wide history. | Name: krao music luvah

Response: The Diary of Anne Frank really touched and surprised me. I knew the Holocaust was very cruel, ruthlessly destroying the Jews in a slow, painful way. Considering this, I felt as though I never fully understood quite how horrible the Holocaust really was. From what I had seen, this act of persecution was much worse than anything I had every imagined. The Diary of Anne Frank really opened my eyes to the cruelty that took place in this very world. |
