I wonder why Anne was so rude and ungrateful to her mother. That wasn’t good, but at least she knew it was wrong to do that. I wonder how I would feel if I were Anne. Not being able to go outdoors would really depress me. I’m surprised Anne was quite happy during her stay at the Annex. Anne Frank was a spirited young lady and I’m glad she will be remembered by many people. |

I cannot believe that something as horrible as the Holocaust actually happened. Anne Frank's diary gave me a good perspective from a Jewish victim's point of view, and her writing helped me understand her hardships. Anne was a very strong and clever girl, and I am very glad I got the opportunity to read her diary. |

December 14, 2010 09:36 PM | Location: Cupertino,CA Response: The book "The Diary of Anne Frank" was a very moving book and explained a lot about how life was for the Jews. Personally, I learnt a lot about the holocaust and Hitler's goals. Hitler has killed many Jews. The Diary of Anne Frank showed me how Anne and her family felt in hiding for so long. It must have been hard for Anne, a young girl, to go without sunshine and friends for so long. Children need friends to talk to, fresh air, and nature. There were many heroes in that book. Mr. Frank was the main hero who let everyone live longer. This was a very moving story and everyone should read it. |

December 14, 2010 09:13 PM | Location: Cupertino Response: When I read the play based on Anne's life while hiding in the annex, I thought it was very entertaining, but I felt very sorry for Anne and her family when they were caught. I was really shocked by how cruelly the Jews were treated in the concentration camps, and the number of Jews murdered in the Final Solution. But, I was also surprised by how optimistic Anne was, even in these hard times. I look up to Anne because of how optimistic and courageous she is. Anne certainly inspires me to not lose hope and give up. |

December 14, 2010 09:12 PM | Location: Cupertino, California Response: After I read the story about Anne’s years in hiding, I was very shocked about how the Nazis, especially Hitler, hated the Jews enough that they would kill them. I feel sad that Anne wasn’t able to become a writer, but at least she was still able to write in a journal. I was very depressed about how everyone at the concentration camps died. I think that wasn’t the way to end it. I believe Anne should’ve had a chance to live her dream as a writer. |

December 14, 2010 09:00 PM | Location: CA Response: Anne Frank was a very moving story. It described in detail the lives of all the Jews living in hiding. Also, although the book is just a diary, it tells the story like a book. I wish I could tell Anne how brave she was during that part of her life. She developed a maturity very early that no one today could have done. This was all due to the circumstances of her life. I felt so sorry for all the people in hiding after they were caught.....the hope that they would be free was quickly squashed, like a brightly burning candle that goes out in a puff of air. Anne Frank certainly gave me a new perspective on my life, and how lucky we are to have peaceful, happy lives. |

December 14, 2010 08:33 PM | Location: Cupertino, CA Response: Today I read the Diary of Anne Frank. I have to say, it will forever be imprinted in my mind, heart and soul. You think you’re having a bad day? Anne must have had worse everyday. Thinking of suicide? Jews didn’t have the choice. They were at the mercy of the German Nazi’s, who shot and gassed the Jews in mass numbers. This book really helps me appreciate all that I have, the freedom that I have compared to Margot, Anne, Peter. They were never able to live their live to even a bare minimum, whereas we complain about not having the latest gadgets. The whole is so emotional, and touching, that you wish you could go back in time and erase this terrible smudge in world history. Anne Frank is a great inspiration, and her legacy will always live on. |
