Yet, if I'd never of read the diary of anne frank at the age of just 10, I would have always thought of Nazi's as being bad. Anne was German and Jewish and she was one of the most inspiring people for me. She has taught me so much. Dont judge a book by its cover. Its whats inside thats counts. |

For most of the younger generation the war is such a distant thing, a relic of the past does not concern them. Yet through Anne's incredible story we come to realise just how incredibly relevant the events of the 1940s are today. Anne is the voice of more than six million people who suffered and died at the hands of the most extreme Nazis. She reminds us that every single person who set foot inside those camps was a real, breathing human - not a statistic for critical analysis. This is her legacy to me - through her agonising sacrifice, Anne immortalised the oppression of millions be they Jewish, Polish, Russian, German or any other group that experienced something of Hitler's insatiable thirst for death. We owe to Anne and every single soul who perished, both in the Holocaust and the Second World War, to ensure that no man like Hitler or Himmler is ever allowed to hold such power again. To me, this is the struggle of our generation - at a time when the return of such men is more viable than ever in the past 60 years, we must be the vanguard to ensure that the holocaust is NEVER repeated on any scale. |

Most accounts of conflicts, and particularly the Second World War, are told from the perspectives of the combatants themselves. Instead, Anne's diary is told from the point of a 13 year old girl, not some soldier. It really provides a different angle at which to view the war. Also, it helps immerse the reader in the story, due to the fact that many of us can relate to the problems, concerns, and fears of someone closer to our age, like Anne. |

Response: I have always wanted to read the book 'Anne Frank's Diary'. When it was the first day of fifth grade, I wanted to read Anne Frank, but my teacher said it was to advanced for my age. I was dissapointed. Now I think it is appropriate for my age. Now I can stand the pain that is described in the book and the suffering. |
