Mr. Bogdan Chiriac is a PhD candidate in history at the Central European University in Hungary. He possesses language skills in Romanian, English, and French. While in residence at the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Center for Advanced Holocaust Studies, Mr. Chiriac conducted research on his project “The Trial of the Antonescu Group (6-17 May 1946): The Prosecution of the Major War Criminals and the Image of the Holocaust in Romania.”
Mr. Chiriac has given several conference presentations, including: “The Trial of the Antonescu Group (May 1946) and the representation of the Holocaust in the Courtroom)” at the 2009 International Student Conference Witnessing Responses: A New Generation’s Perspectives on the Holocaust, organized by the Károli Gáspár University of the Hungarian Reformed Church (Hungary).
Fellowship Research
For his Yetta and Jacob Gelman Fellowship on the Holocaust in Romania at the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Center for Advanced Holocaust Studies, Mr. Chiriac analyzed the impact of the trial of the Antonescu group on the perception of the Holocaust in postwar Romania using the Museum's collection of indictments and trial transcripts of Romanian war criminals and political leaders. He also examined selected records from the Romanian Information Service, and the Central Archives of the Federal Security Services of the Russian Federation (former KGB) records relating to war crimes trials in the Soviet Union.
Mr. Bogdan Chiriac was in residence at the Mandel Center from October 1, 2014 to February 28, 2015.
