Professional Background

Dr. Jadwiga Biskupska recently received her PhD in eastern European history from Yale University. She possesses language skills in English, Polish, and German. While in residence at the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Center for Advanced Holocaust Studies, Ms. Biskupska conducted research on her project entitled, “Extermination and the Elite: Warsaw Under Nazi Occupation, 1939-1944.”

Dr. Biskupska has a forthcoming publication, “Between Resistance and Collaboration: Polish Women under Nazi Occupation” in Gender in Twentieth-Century Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union (2015), and has given presentations at multiple conferences and lectures. These include presentations at the German History Society (United Kingdom) and the German Studies Association conferences in 2013 and 2014. She came to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum from a summer fellowship at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars.

Fellowship Research

For her Stephen B. Barry Memorial Fellowship at the Mandel Center, Dr. Biskupska examined the Nazi occupation of Poland from the perspective of the Warsaw intelligentsia community as victims, perpetrators, bystanders, and interpreters of Nazi wartime policy, using the Ringelblum Archives of the Warsaw Ghetto, and the records of the Polish Underground Army and the German centers for Ostforschung.

Dr. Jadwiga Biskupska was in residence at the Mandel Center from September 1 to December 31, 2014.
