The Museum provides free research services to those seeking information about the fates of specific people. Our experienced staff conducts research in more than 25 languages and uses all the resources available at the Museum to answer a request—archives and collections, ITS Digital Archive records, library records, and more.
Documentation does not exist for all victims and survivors of Nazi persecution. In those cases, we try at the minimum to provide information about relevant towns, camps, or ghettos. Given the large volume of requests we receive each month, priority is given to requests from Holocaust survivors.
How to Submit a Request
Individual Research Requests
Museum staff will search for documents in the records of the ITS Digital Archive and other archival collections of the Museum free of charge. Priority will be given to survivors, their families, and families of victims.
Other Requests
To request information from other Museum collections, e-mail resource-center@ushmm.org or contact us by letter, fax, or telephone. Because of the large numbers of requests, we cannot accept requests on family names alone.
The Museum’s Resource Center is located on our second floor. It is open Sunday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., except for federal holidays and Yom Kippur.
