The United States Holocaust Memorial Council’s legislation mandates Holocaust educational programming throughout the country in both religious and secular contexts. Because the religious community has a special interest in the Holocaust, a Committee on Ethics, Religion, and the Holocaust was established to engage religious organizations in the United States to fulfill that mandate.
Comprised of scholars, professors, and clergy from academic institutions, faith groups, and interfaith organizations, the Committee provides suggestions and advice to the Museum's efforts to educate the public as well as scholars and experts in Holocaust history; the role of the churches and religious organizations during the Nazi period and in the aftermath of the Holocaust; and the impact of the Holocaust on interfaith relations among Christians, Jews, and Muslims.
