Event Recap

30th Anniversary Western Region Tribute Event

The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum presents its National Leadership Award to honorees Kelly and Lou Gonda, and Lorena Gonda and Lucy Gonda and Amy and Morton Friedkin at the “30th Anniversary Western Region Tribute Event” for their contributions to preserving Holocaust history and helping us carry its lessons far beyond our walls as more than 300 guests in person with many more livestreaming helped raise over $1.2 million on Wednesday, March 16, 2023, at The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif. Thirty years ago in an unprecedented partnership of survivors with the American people, the Museum opened its doors. The survivors fervently believed it would serve as not only a lesson and a warning, but also an inspiration. Program host Melvin Robert, an Emmy Award–winning journalist led a meaningful conversation with Ambassador (Ret.) Stuart E. Eizenstat, who as the Chief White House Domestic Affairs Advisor under President Carter, played a pivotal role in the establishment of the President’s Commission on the Holocaust and the subsequent creation of the Museum. Serving four additional administrations, Ambassador Eizenstat has led tireless efforts to secure compensation and restitution for Holocaust survivors worldwide. He was appointed chairman of the Museum in 2022.
